It was a light bar with two set of wires (black, white, and ground) going to it. I am replaing it with a smaller fixter that only needs one set. I capped one set of wired and then .
Connect the black wire from your switch (last wire left) to your fixture's black wire. Nut them off. This will correct the problem of your breaker . I installed the first new hanging fixture successfully. However, when I removed the second existing fixture, I found that the second outlet box had two sets of wires (two each of black, white, ground), whereas the first outlet . Hey guys, So I have this junction box on the ceiling in my basement which runs a single light in the center of the room, the wiring is confusing to me though. each wire of course .
The light switch box was fed power first and your light has two cables in it because it goes to another light after that one. You need to first figure out where your strait hot power is . I found this setup in an electrical box in my downstairs closet underneath my stairs. It has two sets of wires that seems to be connected serially. My testing shows that the red wire is always hot, and the black and white .

Lighting, Light Fixtures, Ceiling and Exhaust Fans - Junction box has 5 sets of wires - We were changing the light fixture and I took off the light fixture awhile ago and forgot to take photos. Now we were able to put the light .Each lightbulb socket must have a separate black and white wire to supply electricity to the lightbulb; the more lightbulbs, the more wires. Connect the two white wires from the light fixture to the white wire located in the electrical box .I know there's a max number of physical wires per wire, but is there a limit to using a separate wire as a jumper between 2 sets of wires nuts to supply power to each wires, while still being in the range for acceptable wire count per wirenut. (2 wirenuts for neutrals, 2 .
For electrical circuits to work there must be: one wire to receive electric current into the outlet (often referred to as the ‘hot’ or ‘live’ wire); and one wire to send it on (usually referred to as the ‘neutral’ wire), this completes a circuit and allows electric current to ‘flow’.. When an outlet is connected in the middle of a circuit it will generally have more than two .
So I have this junction box on the ceiling in my basement which runs a single light in the center of the room, the wiring is confusing to me though. each wire of course has black, white, and ground. Two sets of the wires are twisted together as usual, but the rest is strange. The black wire from the light is twisted to the white wires, then the . The top box contains two old cloth wires attached to two newer wires, and they are capped, and were covered with a plate. The wires below the box seem to be unrelated and were not in a junction box - they were fished through the drywall and were running power to my vanity light (I certainly didn’t do this!).Light junction box has two sets of wires, does not work with the pendant light connector. Any ideas of alternatives? Locked post. New comments cannot be posted. . Wiring a Fixture to 2 Sets of Supply Wire comments. r/AskElectronics. r/AskElectronics. A subreddit for practical questions about component-level electronic circuits: design, repair .The smallest (volume) junction box that can be used in the installation, shown above in Figure 208.33, is a ___. Conduits #1 and #4 each contain twenty-four 10 AWG wires. Conduits #2 and #5 each contain twelve 6 AWG wires. Conduits #3 and #6 each contain sixteen 8 AWG wires. All conductors are "wire nutted" inside the box.

The can light has a junction box hooked up to it inside the ceiling above the drywall. There is more than likely a ground, but it is hooked up inside the junction box and not visible unless you pull the whole recess can light out. . That splice box is only rated for 2 sets of wire(in and out). If you don’t feel comfortable with that call an . The trouble is when I removed the old light (which I never installed) it has two sets of live, neutral and earth wires. I am pretty sure both sets aren't going to go in the lights terminal block. The switch indoors for the light is just a basic on/off switch. Ground wires always get connected together and, if you have metal boxes, connected to the boxes. There are 4 main wire functions in 120V/240V wiring: Hot - always "on" Switched Hot - "on" only when a switch (or combination of switches) is on; Neutral - the other half of each circuit (except 240V-only, which has two hots). Not usually switched.
Not counting the wires from the fan itself, I have 3 sets of wires going into the fan box - 1 is for the switch, 1 leads to an outlet, and the other back to the main power source - so it appears the fan is in the middle of a circuit. Each of the wires have 1 black, 1 white, 1 ground. The switch wire is also a single wire of black, white, ground.
But, if you have two sets of wires coming through the back or side of the box you have two reasons possible. (a third reason that would not be normal and I will explain below) . 2nd is that one of the sets of wires in you junction box is hot .
Does anyone know if there any way to join two pieces of Romex without a junction box and be up to code? or do they make a junction box that is half the size? I'm just trying to connect to wires (can't rerun the Romex) The fabric white wire is standing alone, while the two newer-looking white wires are connected. I’ve tried a lot of combos to try to get it working. The only one that has worked so far was when I hooked the black of the light . The junction box is where I run into the problem. It has 3 sets of wires coming into it. Each set of wires has a black wire, white wire, and a bare copper wire. The white wires are all connected using a plastic twist cap thing and the bare copper wires are all connected using a plastic twist cap thing as well.
The black wire from the fixture was connected to the single black wire on the right side of the box (presumably the switch's cable) but I do not know where the fixture's white wire was connected. I have a feeling the white wire from the fixture was connected to the two black wires on the left side of the picture, however, I'm hesitant to do .The original wiring should have been power black to switch loop white re-coded with black marker or tape, as well as in the switch box, leaving you with the white supply neutral to the fixture neutral and the black switch loop wire to the fixture black wire.As in, both "hot" wires in the box plus the fan wires were all connected together? If that's the case it's possible that one set in the box either continues on to another junction box somewhere (another light or outlet; probably an outlet somewhere that had a floor lamp plugged in) or the wires coming into the room hit the fan box first and .
In the junction box for "Light A" there is wiring that I would expect to see: one ground, one neutral, one hot. In the junction box for "Light B" there are TWO of each wire, two ground, two neutral, two hot, and all of the wires are spliced together (neutral wrapped on neutral, hot wrapped on hot, and even the grounds were wrapped together). It looks as if a direct feed from the power panel comes to this box and then feeds out to two other branches. The fourth black hot wire appears to feed toward the fan wall switch (exiting the box at the top right). The switch switches that hot line and sends the switched power back to this box on the white wire (part of the top right bundle). Both regular and GFCI outlets can have two sets of hot wire. One hotwire always remains on for transmuting power from the power supply and feeding the other wires. . If you put multiple wires in one hole, the wires will expand while heating and cut into the box, damaging the wires and causing burns. Data Source: National Electrical Code .

The older wires are 2 wire cable, with no ground. Personally I would replace these with proper 3 wire cable for futureproofing. In your pic you have brown hooked to black. Fairly sure that's a no no (brown is neutral and black is hot, so you've created a 120V short).
All insulted wire counted. +1(for ground) X by wire size factor wire factor 14awg=2 12awg=2.25 box should have a #stamp in the back(CU.IN.) number calculated has to be smaller than box example - all #14– 3(nuetral)3(ungrounded)1(ground) 7x2=14. Box needed 14 or larger. This switch has two sets of wires . So I hooked both blacks together and both whites together. exhaust fan is working With the switch off. . A buddy of mine had the same issue his breaker jumped instantly until I opened the junction box to look inside and I saw exactly what you're showing here. A switch doesn't require a neutral on the screws .
