The overall goal is to take 2 parts and make them into a sheet metal part. I converted one part into a sheet metal one and then copied the sketch from the other part. Sketch 6 is the other part and I pasted it into the sheet metal part.

In the graphics window, select one or more faces of the part or surface body to split. . Please see two attached parts for two ideas on the workflow you would like to have. One is using the part loft feature then create flat pattern, the other is using sheet metal . It takes a little practice but you can make quite complex sheet metal parts WITHOUT multi-body modeling. I form the core and place it into the model and then modify .

Tip: After part faces are split, you can use Face .Named sheet metal rules combine sets of parameters and option selections which define how a particular sheet metal part is modeled in both the folded and flattened model state. Technically Multi-body doesn't support sheet metal but there is an easy workaround. the other option uses Derived Component as well - model first part and Derive Component as Composite into second part. I will try to work .Within the Autodesk Inventor design environment, a sheet metal part can be displayed as a folded model or a flat pattern. With sheet metal commands, you can unfold features and work on a .

Multibody Parts & Sheet Metal. I've inherited a multibody part for detailing, yet it's in sheet metal. Adding to that, this is also an iPart. What I would like to do is break out each of the bodies, as if they're separate components, .
In this video, Pete demonstrates how to import an AutoCAD flat pattern into Inventor so that a sheet metal component can be built using the Fold command. He'.
Will this work? I just made corner seams with a width of .001" then added the bend. I hade to delete the faces on the edge and have them heal on the 2 parts that are parallel. Also make sure all the sheet metal thickness is the same from one file to the next or things won't work right. Hope this is what you want.
Im trying to convert a surface to sheet metal part. Once i get the shape coverted to 3mm thick aluminium I will add flanges etc to finish the part. So far i have drawn a 3d sketch then patched it to create the shape I want. I have tried playing around with scult, thicken/offset and trying to convert to sheet metal but cant seem to get the result i want, always a problem with . 1. Connecting Multiple Sheet Metal Bodies (Bend Command) Often, sheet metal is brought into the picture after a multi-body assembly is created. Now, you as a designer are in charge of using Sheet Metal to connect these bodies together. First, you could start by performing a combination of projecting bodies and creating new sketches in your design. I'm wondering if there is an easy way to convert this standard Inventor 2015 part to a sheet metal part so I can create a flat pattern. I've had some light sheet metal training years ago, mostly unused and forgotten. The part was created from a thickened surface quilt in a multibody solid. I'm recreating a complex assembly from 2D drawings from the 70's and many . Hi Folks, I am in need of some assistance!. Within the Company I work for, some of the Juniors are failing to Convert to Sheet Metal when designing components within an IPT file,This is causing some issues!! (Long Story!!).. I have tried several options, and I'm now at my wits end, I'm looking for The iLogic code that will recognise that "Convert To Sheet Metal" is .
It depends on what your requirements are. For a sheet metal part I did it the way I saw it fit. There might be other solutions as well. As for the SS ball in the video - each member of the welded construction is not a true sheet metal part. It is a formed part. Hence, for the time being - unwrap is the best tool for it in Inventor. This is an assembly of 4 parts. Must thicken each part individually in it's own file. Since these are planar parts with no bends they could actually be thickened as multibody solids and then push out the parts. The instructions were intended to also cover more complex cases where there are bends (multi-body does not support sheet metal bends).
But when I go into my flat pattern that length = 48.878. So I went into my sheet metal defaults and started changing the K factor to get it as close the 48.1988. ( .0075 K-factor). Since we are not sheet metal people, but still make the parts, I try to use and understand the process as time permits. A tutorial on how to briefly use the frame generator module in Inventor, and then take a full assembly and merge that into a single part file. Also how to m.
I am still new to inventor (yes only 3 weeks experience ), but with some advice from some folks here I am making headway. I'm still having problems with a few concepts though. After watching a dozen or so videos and reading even more write-ups, I still can't seem to get the proper way to create flanges over curved sheetmetal surfaces. So, after seemingly . Moved post from Splitting a solid body to new thread for clarity. I am having a similar issue. I have modeled a sheet metal frame. I would like to split it into two pieces, one consisting of the bottom and left leg, the other consisting of the top and right leg. I was able to rip them apart but Inventor was still seeing them as one solid. These will be formed separately and .Start Inventor and open an assembly. Double click the "DXF Exporter" icon on your desktop. . scan your assembly for sheet metal parts for exporting. Select the required export settings. To clarify @NigelHay 's response-- Inventor can be used to model all kinds of sheet metal parts but can only flatten (unfold) parts which have cylindric or conical bends, which are typically achieved in real life by rolling or bending.. Anything with more complex forms cannot be flattened, though the Unwrap tool (in the last several versions) can produce an approximation.

I have a friend who is on holidays for most of January and he has allowed me to use his AutoCAD Inventor Station (v5.0, I think it is), while he is away. I spent a full day on it yesterday, and got a complete product designed in Sheet Metal. I made an assemby of all the parts, and all I need to do is to add holes for rivets to assemble them. Multiple sheet metal bodies exist, but it is desired to have a single flat pattern for all the bodies. To combine sheet metal body and unfold, do the following: Create a bend using SHEET METAL > CREATE > FLANGE. Combine the Bodies using SOLID > MODIFY > COMBINE. Unfold the sheet metal using SHEET > MODIFY > UNFOLD. If sheet metal bodies .
Hello, I'm an engineer at a metal construction company and some of the products we make come from 3rd parties which use different 3D software like Solidworks etc. That's why we get a lot of .STEP files we have to convert to sheet metal parts. Now I want to know if it is possible to use out own personal "Sheet Metal Defaults" during the convert to Sheet Metal .
We have a model we created in Fusion containing 2000+ individual solid parts. All the parts are different shapes, but they all have the same thickness, 1.2cm. Our final build contains 8 different materials. We are going to cut all of the parts out of sheets (8 different material types), all 1.2cm thick. Our plan is to send our model into Autodesk TruNest which will . 1. After you have created the sheet metal part, go to Manage >> Parameters and check Thickness parameter for export. (see image) This process creates a Custom iProperty called Thickness. 2. In the IDW, Add a column for Thickness. Any part that has that Custom iPropery will have a value in the proper cell.-- Dennis Jeffrey, Autodesk Inventor . The 'Thickness' value exists as a sheetmetal parameter in the sheet metal environment. From here, you just need to add the 'Description' column to your parts lists, and all will update accordingly. As a side note, if you wish to add the units for the thickness value too, add the following code to an ilogic rule:
Hi @ejowalter . You could use what you have to to create a multi-body sheet metal part and then use the Make Components tool to push all the pieces out as individual files that can then be flattened.. See the attached Inventor 2022 example. note I made no attempt to create realistic HVAC parts, but was just trying to demonstrate how to create a multi-body part based . Hello, I've been racking my brain all day trying to figure this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to create a Hole table for a flat pattern. My hole table command is working fine. The table shows up and it letters all the circle holes just fine. But when it comes to anything that's not a circle, it ignores them. So I started experimenting with punches / ifeatures . Having the ability to combine the different radii in the same feature allows me to combine the fillets into a "O-ring Radius Feature", and maybe shave down the feature tree a little bit. . Another case I've used was way back when I was designing sheet metal tooling. I used it when "keying" a rectangular insert. In that example, the opening . I have a very simple solid that consists of a lofted solid that was the "hollowed" out via the Shell command The sketches used to make this lofted solid were two dimensionally similar rectangles. One has radiused corners while the other does not. These rectangles exist on 2 separate planes that are 10" apart. This part (Shroud1.ipt) is supposed to represent a shroud .
